EHGV-scaled

What we will do and why

Future Fleet looks at how can we plan, prepare, and enable the electrification of the logistics industry. It aims to bridge the gap between the transport sector and the energy system by developing a comprehensive framework to support heavy goods vehicle decarbonisation.

Key deliverables

  • Develop a practical blueprint for electrifying freight by helping operators understand and adopt smart, flexible charging and operational strategies.
  • Mapping how charging demand is most likely to arise.

Target outcomes

  • Setting out clear options for future real-world trials.

Measures of success

  • A defined and tested fleet archetypes and charging locations, with options laid out for operators to deploy smart charging or low carbon technology to reduce costs and enable scalability. This will inform the eventual scenarios report covering cost-benefits and quantifying different impacts on the total cost of ownership.

Planned start:

02.03.2026

Target completion:

31.12.2026

Key milestones:

  • Develop eHGV fleet charging archetypes
  • Develop smart energy schemes and business models
